Many Liverpool fans have been reacting to the latest news about Bayern Munich defender David Alaba and his contract demands that have been revealed ahead of a possible move to Anfield.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via Anfield Edition), the 28-year-old wants a deal that equates to an annual salary of £10.8m, which would make him Anfield’s second-highest earner, just behind star man Mohamed Salah, if the Reds agreed to pay him that amount.
The Austrian centre-back has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside with his contract due to expire in the summer and due to the serious knee injuries to both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, leaving Liverpool without any established defenders to select.
Salary Sport believe that Alaba is currently earning £8.5m a year at Bayern, so this move would see him earn a drastic pay rise if he gets the type of money that he is asking for.
Would you bring David Alaba to Liverpool in January?
Despite this, these supporters were all in favour of Liverpool paying that sort of money for a player who has won nine league titles in a row and two Champions Leagues.
“No brainer world-class player and still only 28. There are only a few players in world football that can improve our starting 11 and he is one of them.”
“Just get it done, he’d be a £50m + player for free”
“Free transfer. So only paying for wages and possibly agent fees. It’s a no brainer”
“Just pay it and sell Matip as Matip is too injury prone”
“World-class player who can cover about 5 positions. Pay him that all day”
“Genuinely not that outrageous. He’s worth £40-50m. Therefore those wages are genuinely not that bad whatsoever. Considering he’s on a free.”
