The Netherlands claimed an important 2-1 victory against Belarus in Euro 2020 qualifying on Saturday.
Will Liverpool win the Premier League title this season?
It was a result which means that the Dutch top Group C after six matches, level on points with Germany and three ahead of Northern Ireland.
There was no doubting who the star of the show was for Ronald Koeman’s side on the night, with Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum netting both goals in the first half.
The first was a header from six yards, but it was his second strike which got people out of their seats.
Picking the ball up over 20 yards away from goal, the 28-year-old shifted it onto his right foot before unleashing a piledriver into the top corner.
The goals were Wijnaldum’s 14th and 15th of his international career, and he has turned into something of a prolific scorer in this Euro 2020 qualifying campaign. Indeed he also scored in the home tie against Belarus in March, as well as netting against both Germany and Estonia in September.
Naturally, supporters of the Dutch will be delighted with the midfielder’s contributions, but his second goal in Minsk also had fans of his club side Liverpool drooling.
A video of it was posted on a Liverpool fan account on Twitter, and several supporters were left in awe of the strike. Meanwhile, some wondered why it was that he didn’t do it as often when playing for his club…
