Many Liverpool fans have been reacting to comments made by midfielder Marko Grujic in light of his recent experiences at Anfield.
The 24-year-old has been exiled on Merseyside by manager Jurgen Klopp, despite the Serbia international being the German tactician’s first signing after his arrival at the club in 2015.
Grujic is on his fifth loan spell while on the Liverpool books, having played for Red Star Belgrade, Cardiff City, Hertha BSC and now the Portuguese champions FC Porto.
From 16 appearances for the Reds, Grujic has scored just once, which was during the 7-2 win over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup this season, and has clocked up 430 minutes for Dragões as it stands (TransferMarkt).
Should Liverpool have stuck with Marko Grujic this season?
Grujic told Serbian outlet Kurir that he is unsure about the way he has been treated by Klopp, claiming he is often reminded of all the potential he has but doesn’t get many first-team opportunities to showcase it.
With speculation growing that teammate Georginio Wijnaldum could leave at the end of his contract, supporters suggested that Grujic could be the man to step into the Dutchman’s shoes and rate him higher than the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Melwood graduate Curtis Jones.
Fans feel sorry for Grujic
“Definitely deserves a chance over the Ox and Jones.”
“He would be perfect right now. Has the height we lack and would be good to have in the mid. Would’ve at her play him at CB if needed then Hendo”
“I think he could do a great job if he had a run of games, certainly in front of Ox and our other midfield options, it looks like Wijnaldum is going so fetch the kid back and give him a chance.”
“This guy is like Ings case. Dont do it over again.”
“Bring him back to replace Gini.”
“Our Wijnaldum replacement has been staring at us this whole time”
