With both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea to come at Anfield, Liverpool fans would be forgiven for feeling a little anxious in their run for the Premier League title, with the Blues having cost them their chance for silverware once before. Jurgen Klopp’s side does also have a Champions League quarter-final wedged in between those contests as well, which could make or break their season.
However, it appears the German may also have his eye cast on one of the Europa League’s quarter-finalists as well, as it appears he is keen on one of their emerging talents.
What’s the News?
O Jogo (via Sport Witness) are claiming that Liverpool, along with Arsenal and Bayern Munich, are keeping tabs on Jota.
It is understood the Reds will watch two of Portugal Under-20 matches to see how well he does and could potentially look to make an offer for him worth around €30million (£25.5m) – to which his current release clause is set, despite Benfica’s desperation to increase it with a new contract.
Jota is just another one to have come off the production line at Benfica that appears to be full of talent and the potential to go really far in the game. He may not have had a prominent role in the first-team this season, however, he has had a handful of opportunities already which can go some way into showing how highly they think of him.
Still only 19-years-old, the teenager is an attacker that has plenty of versatility on offer, as he can play anywhere across the front three, meaning he could be someone that would fit into the system that Klopp deploys at Liverpool almost immediately.
He was a standout at the Under-19 European Championships last summer for Portugal as he registered five goals and two assists to help them win the tournament – including one goal in the final against Italy.
The teenager is extremely direct with his running and is already blessed with bundles of attacking threat as he has shown that he has the ability to find the back of the net and provide the creativity needed to create chances, making him incredibly dangerous on the counter-attack.
Obviously far from a finished product, Jota would still need some time to develop, however, the German could be the ideal manager to help him mould his game and take it to the next level. But, with the way Benfica’s youngsters have started to turn out €30m (£25.5m) could be a real steal and one Liverpool should look to make the most of.
Liverpool fans, what do you make of Jota? Do you think he could excel in the system that Klopp currently uses at the club? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
