Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side get back to winning ways in the Premier League with a 4-0 thumping of Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash on the South Coast off the back of draws with Everton and West Brom, but they proved far too strong for Eddie Howe’s struggling Cherries on Sunday. Goals from Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Lovren, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino secured a comprehensive victory for the Merseyside giants, who took advantage of Tottenham’s heavy defeat to table-toppers Manchester City a day earlier to move back inside the Premier League’s top four.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Sun, which suggests that young forward Harry Wilson is set for a move to Championship side Preston North End in January.
The 20-year-old came up through the ranks at Anfield to earn his senior debut for the club in January of this year, when he came off the bench in the second half of their 1-0 FA Cup third round replay success over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.
However, the one-time Wales international has not featured for Klopp’s side since, instead he has been banging in the goals for the club’s Under-23 team in Premier League 2, having scored nine in just ten appearances for the side this term.
And now it seems that he’ll get a chance to prove himself in the Championship, as reports suggest that the young striker is set to move to Alex Neil’s Preston in January, who are currently ninth in the second tier table and just two points off the play-offs.
And given that Wilson is unlikely to command regular football at Liverpool, it’s a move which makes sense for all parties involved.
Landlord’s verdict: Harry Wilson made his senior Liverpool debut earlier this year in an FA Cup replay at Plymouth Argyle, but has since failed to add another appearance to his tally.
He’s doing all he can though with nine goals in ten Premier League 2 games this term, and that looks set to earn him a move to Championship side Preston North End in January, in a bid to help Alex Neil’s men sustain a play-off push in the second half of the season.
And given that the 20-year-old has yet to make the bench for the first team this term, it’s a move which is certainly in the best interests of all parties involved.
