The Football Transfer Tavern has been fairly quiet this evening but the latest news from Metro has caused something of a stir among Liverpool supporters in the bar.
The papers reports that the Reds are considering a summer bid for Udinese forward Luis Muriel after he decided to make a switch to the Premier League.
With Champions League football likely to be back on the agenda for Brendan Rodgers’ side, the Reds are expected to have a productive summer in the transfer market with recruits likely in defence and attack.
While the Anfield outfit have been strong going forward this term it is still thought that the 22-year-old Colombian, who will star at this summer’s World Cup, is a key target for Rodgers as he seeks versatility.
Muriel would offer that with the ability to play on either wing, as a number 10 or as a lone striker and the possibility of a transfer has been increased after he apparently told his current club that he would like to move England in the summer.
Liverpool are expected to put together a bid worth £17 million as they try to fend off reported interest from Chelsea and Barcelona.
Where do you think the Reds need to strengthen in the summer? Would Muriel be a strong recruit for Rodgers? Let us know your thoughts below.
