It has been a tough old summer for the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, but is there a light at the end of the tunnel?
So far, Mohamed Salah is the only major signing at Anfield this summer, with the Reds proving otherwise unsuccessful as they look to improve their side.
However, according to Bild, their fortunes could turn around. Bild reports that Liverpool remain keen on RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, and though they have thus far been unsuccessful in their pursuit, that could be about to change. It is said that internal preparations are being made for his departure, with the German outfit seemingly changing their stance on the player.
Keita recently made headlines for his involvement in a training ground incident, and this is likely to have had an impact in their supposed change of heart.
They were previously hesitant to let him go, and that didn’t come as a surprise. He was a key player for RB Leipzig last season as the German side launched an assault on the Bundesliga, eventually finishing in second place behind Bayern Munich.
Now, though, it appears that – if nothing else – Liverpool have been given a lifeline in their pursuit.
RB Leipzig have been desperate to keep hold of the midfielder so far this summer, and it seems strange that they would change their stance so decisively. That said, their loss could be Liverpool’s gain, and there is no doubting the influence that Keita would have in the middle of the park for the Reds.
The effect that N’Golo Kante had in the Chelsea midfield last season was clear, and Keita shares a number of qualities with the Frenchman, so the impact that he could have in the Liverpool midfield would be huge. The Reds lack that bite in the middle of the park at present, and he would certainly provide it.
That said, any move remains some way off – and the landlord is still doubtful that it will happen.
