The Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have been waiting desperately to hear news of their case with the Premier League over an approach for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, and finally a verdict has reached the bar.
According to reports from The Times, the club will face no formal action from the Premier League after their investigation found no grounds for action against the Reds.
The Merseysiders were accused of an illegal approach for the 25-year-old by the Saints and were backed into releasing an embarrassing apology whilst simultaneously withdrawing their interest in the Dutchman.
However, after concerns here in the Tavern that an investigation could lead to a transfer ban for Jurgen Klopp’s side there have been celebrations here after the relieving news spread amongst the punters.
While the Reds won’t be chasing the Saints skipper this summer, the weight has been taken off their shoulders and the powers that be can press on with their other targets without that worry before the new season.
Liverpool fans, we want to hear from you! How glad are you that nothing will come from the accusations? Do you think the club will go back with an offer for Van Dijk on the sly? Let us know in the comments below…
