Liverpool handed major boost in pursuit of 26-goal forward

Alex TeixeiraLiverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have run inside from the cold and rubbed their hands in anticipation, diving onto the sofas as they fix their eyes on our TV sets for the latest transfer news regarding their club.

Their excitement has been sparked by positive comments from the continent, with FourFourTwo quoting Shakhtar Donetsk manager Mircea Lucescu paved the way for the sale of Alex Teixeira, who has scored 26 goals in all competitions this season.

“I don’t want to keep a player against his desire. He wants to play in a big championship. Our president knows when it is the time for Teixeira to go.”

“He’s worth €50m (£38m). He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique. I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, Di Maria for example at Paris Saint Germain.”

“Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.”

Liverpool have already seen two bids for the 26-year-old Brazilian rejected this month but the Reds are continuing to push for the player’s signature, seemingly leading Chelsea in the race for the highly-rated attacker.

Our landlord believes Teixeira’s exit is inevitable and it’s now down to Liverpool’s negotiators to complete a deal in time.
