Liverpool handed transfer boost?

alderweireld.jpgLiverpool fans are looking interested in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by The Independent that they could be handed a boost in their chase for a defender.

The club have long been linked with Belgian international Toby Alderweireld who is looking for a move away from current club Ajax and now it seems that the 24-year-old is issuing a come and get me plea to one of the top clubs in England or Germany – a plea one of our punters thinks Brendan Rodgers would do well to take notice of.

The defender has shown exactly what he can do for Ajax and now the time has come to spread his wings. Given the fact Liverpool have signed only Kolo Toure as a defensive reinforcement and are facing speculation over the future of Martin Skrtel following Jamie Carragher’s retirement, the defender’s comments should come as welcome news.

He claimed when asked about a move to Portugal or Russia: “That is not my preference. England and Germany are the best leagues where I think I can take the next step.

“I have to go somewhere where I can play football a bit and where my style of play suits.

“On the other hand, I do not want to play for a team at the bottom of their league. I want to leave Ajax for a nice club, otherwise I’ll just stay in Amsterdam.”

Will Liverpool make their move for Alderweireld or pursue other targets? Let us know your thoughts below.
