Pitroipa, 24, impressed the former Fulham boss when the cottagers played Hamburg in last seasons Europa League and Hodgson has been periodically checking up on the pacey winger since.
With only 15 International caps to his name Pitroipa represents an unknown quantity to most European supporters but his impressive displays in the Bundesliga for Hamurg and previously Freiburg have started to attract scouts from some of Europe’s bigger clubs.
Hodgson is keen too add some much needed cutting edge to a Liverpool attack which is all too dependant on the form of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres and the directness with which Pitroipa plays would be sure to give the reds another attacking impetus.
Hamburg are likely to settle for a fee of around £5 million for the wideman, although in a week where Aston Villas Ashley Young was valued at £80 million who knows what ridiculous fee could be sought after.
