Liverpool continue to press on for a spot in the top four and cruised to midweek victory this week at Huddersfield Town, further cementing their spot as one of the top attacking teams in the division.
The Reds have been, at times, playing some breathtaking football and the signing of defender Virgil Van Dijk should go a long way to helping the Anfield club solve their defensive issues which have so often blighted their progress over the last couple of years.
However, on thing is still apparent to our landlord and some of the Liverpool fans here in the Tavern, and that’s the goalkeeping scenario, which remains unresolved at Anfield.
Both Karius and Mignolet appear to have shared responsibilities this season, and although Karius is now looking like being the man with Klopp showing his faith in him, both players are not really up to top four standard.
However, our landlord thinks there is a man out there who can fill the void in Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak, who has developed into one of the finest goalkeepers in world football over the last few seasons.
The Slovenian, who remarkably is still just 25, has his prime years ahead of him, and while he is settled in Madrid, a move to the Premier League and the chance to play at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp is something which he might not be able to pass up on.
Capable on the floor with the ball, a tremendous shot stopper, and commanding of his box, Oblak truly is a special ‘keeper.
He will cost big money, but with only half of the Philippe Coutinho money spent, Liverpool and Klopp will be extremely wise to spend big on Oblak in the summer and finally resolve the problem position at Anfield.
Liverpool fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
