The 32-year-old only signed a new two-year deal with the Spanish giants last January, however the La Liga outfit have strengthened their squad considerably this summer.
Alonso will no doubt replace the injured World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger in Pep Guardiola’s Bundesliga winning side.
And the club’s sporting director Matthias Sammer explained why Alonso is being brought into the Allianz Arena this summer.
He said: “He can give us quality immediately and has at least two years left at the highest level.”
