Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are interested to see who the next arrival at Liverpool will be after a busy summer in the transfer market.
Now the Express report that the Reds are closing in on Palermo striker Abel Hernandez who had also been linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer.
The striker has become frustrated with life in Italy and he wants to force move away following his side’s relegation last season with an ambition to feature for Uruguay in next summer’s World Cup.
The paper suggests that the Anfield outfit are confident of landing Hernandez for a fee of around £4 million during January as the player looks to join up with international team-mate Luis Suarez on Merseyside.
Just before the close of the transfer window Hernandez said: “The club and the coach told me that I could leave if the right offer was made and I think that has now arrived.
“They know what I want and they know what they promised me. I don’t want to lose the chance of playing at the World Cup next summer.
“I think playing in Serie A is beautiful, but the desire to be at World Cup 2014 is what has pushed me to ask for a transfer.”
The striker has netted 21 times in his 86 matches for Palermo but he is now looking for a move away as tries to attract the attention of national team coach Oscar Tabarez.
Would Hernandez be a solid addition for the Reds? Let us know your thoughts below.
