Liverpool and Newcastle supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been kept pretty busy with transfer rumours in recent weeks, and sources at the Express has another that concerns both clubs.
The Reds are understood to have joined the race for want-away Marseille winger Andre Anyew, a player Newcastle have been tracking for some time.
The Ghana international is looking to quit the Ligue 1 club this summer, and has attracted interest from clubs across the continent as well, with Napoli said to have made an offer of £5million already.
Marseille had previously insisted Ayew was not for sale, but reports in France suggest they would be willing to sell for £10million in order to fund other transfer activity.
Both Liverpool and Newcastle have been given encouragement to go in for the winger – who scored eight goals last season – following his comments last month.
“The Premier League is a league every player dreams about,” he said.
“The English league is the one most followed in Ghana. It’s true that I have a real preference for England.
“I like everything about it; the atmosphere, the game, the fans. There is a lot of intensity. It is a beautiful championship.”
Liverpool have already completed the signings of striker Rickie Lambert from Southampton and midfielder Emre Can from Bayern Leverkusen, whilst Newcastle completed the signing of 20-year-old Spanish striker Ayoze Perez last week, as well as the signing of midfielder Jack Colback on a free transfer from Sunderland.
