The Daily Mail have a sensational claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they think that Liverpool are set to be joined in their race for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan by two of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Brendan Rodgers has been tracking the highly rated Armenian for some time now and it seems that not only will he have to face competition from Serie A champions, Juventus but he will also have to battle Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund for the player.
Dortmund of course are trying to hold onto Robert Lewandowski and are reeling from the shock departure of Mario Gotze, meaning they are going all out to land the attacking midfielder. Rodgers however is comfident that the lure of Anfield and the Premier League will be enough to land the player.
Liverpool fans are also in a good mood today as the news filters in that the club are edging closer to securing the services of £9 million rated Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet as Pepe Reina edges ever closer to the exit door.
Will Liverpool win out in the race to land Mkhitaryan? Let us know your thoughts below.
