Liverpool keen on Benfica’s Ferro

There is no denying that if Liverpool want to end the season lifting silverware, they will need to win every single match they play, especially with how well Manchester City are playing in the Premier League at the moment. Going one better in the Champions League could be something that happens for Jurgen Klopp’s side after they drew a rather favourable tie against Porto in the quarter-final.

However, it appears the club have their eyes on another Portuguese outfit at the moment when it comes down to possible transfer targets.

What’s the News?

According to a report by Record (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are understood to have remained keen on Benfica’s Francisco Reis Ferreira, who is also simply known as Ferro.

The Reds allegedly made an offer to take him to Anfield two years ago on a loan deal with an option to buy him, however, the Primeira Liga outfit turned them down.

It is claimed that Liverpool have returned for the 21-year-old, however, they have received the same message from Benfica regarding their enforcer, who also has interest from Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.

The Verdict:

Benfica appear to be producing a number of Europe’s hottest talents at the moment, with the likes of Joao Felix and Jota having been previously linked with moves away from Lisbon, whilst Ferro is just the latest.

The 21-year-old is understood to be highly-rated in Portugal and is expected to have a bright future as he continues to spend time in between the first-team and the developmental side.

It would appear that Liverpool could find it difficult to land him as the Primeira Liga side are obviously keen to keep him at the club, considering that they have already rejected approaches from the Premier League side.

Klopp appears to be keen to strengthen his backline in the summer, with the likes of Matthias Ginter and Diego Llorente having been linked in recent times as potential replacements for some of their current stars.

The Reds may have one of the best defensive records in European football, however, they are rather limited at the centre-back position, with Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez struggling with injuries, making reinforcements something of a necessity in the transfer window.

Liverpool fans, what do you make of the club continuing to chase Ferro? Do you think the centre-back position needs strengthening? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
