The Mirror reveals that Brendan Rodgers is chasing Ignazio Abate who will be available on a Bosman deal next summer after failing to agree a new contract at the San Siro, but could also be snapped up on a cut-price deal in the January transfer.
And similarly the Reds are not expecting Johnson to renew his contract at Anfield with it well discussed in the Tavern that Rafa Benitez is keen to sign him at Napoli.
With Johnson’s future in doubt, it has meant his current boss has had to shortlist transfer targets, as he cannot afford to be left outnumbered in that position.
And it believed that Abate is currently topping that list whilst another target that has emerged on the list is Crystal Palace’s versatile Joel Ward.
The former Portsmouth man has been known to look comfortable playing in pretty much all out field positions but sadly for Rodgers he is supposedly happy in south London and is close to agreeing a new deal at Selhurst Park.
