Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are excited by the upcoming transfer window as Brendan Rodgers attempts to bring silverware to the club after such a positive start to the season.
The latest transfer speculation is that the Reds are keeping tabs on Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic with a view to a possible £12 million January transfer, according to Estadio Deportivo
It’s not the first time that the Reds have been rumoured to be looking at the 25-year-old Croatian international, with a move touted strongly in the summer, but today’s reports suggest that Rodgers could be ready to confirm his interest in the attacking midfielder.
Despite the summer exodus at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, which saw star men Jesus Navas, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Alvaro Negredo all departing, Rakitic remained with the La Liga club and has since become a key player in Unai Emery’s side, contributing with five assists and seven league goals already this season.
This fine early season form has reportedly encouraged Liverpool to consider the former Schalke man again as Rodgers tries to add to his side when when the transfer window opens next month.
Despite Jordan Henderson’s vast improvement of late, it is still thought that the Reds boss is concerned about the strength and depth in midfield and views Rakitic as a suitable solution.
While Sevilla are desperate to keep hold of the playmaker, a possible lucrative switch to the Premier League could prove hard to resist for the Croatian star.
One major sticking point in any transfer for the Reds could be the reported £34 million release clause in his current contract, but given Sevilla’s reported financial issues, punters in the bar are still hopeful of landing him for less than half his set price.
