The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted with the performances of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane this season, and recent reports suggest another attacking talent could be on his way to Anfield this summer.
Liverpool’s fluid front-three have been pivotal to the club’s success both domestically and in Europe so far this season. With statistics as mind-blowing as Salah’s, it’s no surprise that the electric Egyptian has stolen the plaudits so far this season, but gushing praise for Firmino’s form has also been rife throughout the British media.
With the aforementioned pairing performing at the highest level so consistently, Mane’s form has been rather overshadowed throughout the campaign despite the fact he has notched 19 goals and provided 9 assists in 41 appearances for the club. Evidently, the Senegalese international has made a telling contribution to Liverpool’s success – especially in Europe where he has bagged 9 goals – but his form for the Reds may not be enough for him to retain his place in the starting eleven next season.
According to reports in the German media outlet Bild, Liverpool are preparing a €60 million bid for Christian Pulisic this summer. The 19-year-old wonderkid is the arguably the hottest prospect to ever emerge from the US and considering Liverpool’s owners FSG are based in America, it’s easy to understand why they are interested in bringing him to Anfield this summer.
Pulisic (valued at £40.5 million by Transfermarkt) is currently playing his trade at Borussia Dortmund where plenty of faith has been placed in his ability from an early age. The American international broke into the first-team at just 17-years-of-age and he hasn’t looked back since.
His record this season of 5 goals and 7 assists from 40 appearances in all-competitions is rather modest considering the enormity of Liverpool’s proposed bid, but he has plenty of scope for improvement in the years to come. Although Pulisic is naturally a right-winger by trade, Mo Salah’s presence at Liverpool could force him to adapt to a left-wing role, which could spell the end for Sadio Mane at the club.
As it has been noted, Mane’s quality has rather fallen under the radar due to the scintillating brilliance of Firmino and Salah and if one of the three players needed to make way for Pulisic, ultimately, Mane would be the man to lose his place. He has earned the right to play regular first-team football during his career in the Premier League with both Southampton and Liverpool, so he is unlikely to be content sharing responsibilities with Pulisic next season.
The signing of Pulisic would be an excellent piece of business for Liverpool both in footballing and commercial terms, but they must consider where he could slot into the team and how it will influence the future of Mane before concluding a deal with Dortmund this summer.
