Liverpool supporters have arrived at the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon to news from Mirror Football that Brendan Rodgers has made a £4 million bid to bring Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori to Anfield.
The young Sporting Lisbon ace has won admirers for his accomplished displays at the heart of defence for the Portuguese side and his fine form recently earned him a call-up to the Portugal Under-20 national team.
He is able to play at either centre half or at full back and this versatility has attracted attention from French teams Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon but Liverpool appear to have stolen a march on their French rivals.
Despite being raised in Portugal, Ilori was actually born in London to an English father and a move back to England could suit his continued development after he successfully made the breakthrough into the Sporting Lisbon first team this season.
The 6 ft 3 in defender could act as a replacement for retiring Reds legend Jamie Carragher after he decided to hang his boots up and Rodgers is desperate to secure the impressive youngster as he looks to rebuild his side for next season.
Will Liverpool land Ilori this summer? Rate this rumour below.
