The Football Transfer Tavern is packed on this glorious Saturday afternoon when Gary Jones from The Daily Star makes a brief appearance to let punters know that Liverpool have approached Newcastle United over signing winger Hatem Ben Arfa.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard of interest from Anfield for the French international and Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is understood to be keen admirer for the exciting 26-year-old.
And now Jones suggests that Reds have made a formal approach for the former Marseille man with the promise of more first team football that the winger currently earns under Alan Pardew at St. James’ Park.
Ligue 1 money-bags outfit Monaco have also been linked with Ben Arfa this summer who could be available for around £15 million as owner Mike Ashley looks to cash in on one of his many talented French stars.
Ben Arfa had a tough season at the North East, struggling with a persistent hamstring throughout the season but Rodgers will hope that he can stay off the treatment table if he does indeed make the move to Merseyside this summer.
Should Liverpool be targeting the talented winger? Would Newcastle bUnited e mad to sell him this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
