The Daily Mail have a rather interesting story for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Liverpool are now leading the chase for Willian.
The Anzhi Makhachkala player is desperate for a move this summer and given his club is also keen to get rid of him and lower the wage bill, it now seems that finally his dream move to the Premier League could well come to pass. Initially Chelsea and Spurs were leading the pack for the player and as we all know, Andre Villas Boas is a huge fan of the player and has been consistently linked with him since his time at Stamford Bridge.
Now Liverpool have joined the race for the attacking star and given Willian has already encouraged the move by stating that a switch to the Reds would be a dream, the 25 year old could well become Brendan Rodgers’ marquee signing of the summer after the issues with Luis Suarez seemed to be finally resolved with the forward apologising to his team mates and being reinstated to the first team training sessions.
Willian is likely to cost Liverpool around £30 million, but could well be prepared to lower his wage demands to force through a move. With the season about to kick off, Rodgers is fully aware that a top signing is needed and is willing to pay big money for Willian.
