Liverpool ensured Manchester City did not increase their two-point gap at the top of the Premier League table after they beat rivals Everton in crazy fashion on Sunday courtesy of Divock Origi and Jordan Pickford.

Manager Jurgen Klopp, however, will know there is still much work to be done before his side are level with Pep Guardiola's Premier League champions in regards to both points and performances.

And a certain player at the German's former club Borussia Dortmund could help Liverpool to achieve just that.

The Breakdown

Christian Pulisic, who is said to be a long-term target for Liverpool, is the subject of an official offer from Chelsea, according to the Evening Standard.

However, the same outlet reports the 20-year-old is holding out for the Reds, though any transfer is expected to happen in the summer with Dortmund unlikely to part ways with one of their key players in January.

All things considered, Pulisic, who has 18 months left on his contract, may still not be enough for Liverpool to topple Manchester City alone. But any potential signing would still be massive for the Reds looking at the context of the transfer.

With Chelsea also interested, it would be some statement if Liverpool can snap up Pulisic after already beating the Blues to the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, players the London club were rumoured to be interested in before their respective moves to Anfield.

Ultimately, it would be yet another indication of how far Liverpool have come under Klopp and further evidence of FSG now being able or more willing to take on other Premier League powers such as Roman Abramovich in a way they failed to do in the past.
