Metro attempt to put a dampener on a tough day for Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern as it appears they are in pole position to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.
What gives the Reds the advantage in this transfer race is that they have tabled a bid for a permanent deal rather than a loan offer which is what Juventus and Inter Milan are looking for.
It is clear that Bayern want the Swiss international off their wage bill and if they can sell him, they will with a loan deal simply delaying the inevitable given the midfield riches at the Allianz Arena.
Shaqiri is a brilliant talent and moved to the German champions from FC Basel in 2012 for £8 million but he has since struggled to hold down a place in the Bavarians’ first team.
Despite impressive performances for Switzerland on the international stage, he has been unable to displace Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben from Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven.
