Liverpool fans have been given a boost ahead of their massive clash with West Ham United this afternoon.
Tom Hopkinson of the Daily Mirror stopping by the Football Transfer Tavern to reveal that the Reds lead the chase for the signature of Real Madrid left back Fabio Coentrao.
Brendan Rodgers side have reportedly moved ahead of Manchester City and Monaco in the race to sign the out of favour full back.
The Reds are understood to have already made contact with the 26-year-old’s agent over a summer move, with Brendan Rodgers keen to strengthen a defence that has leaked 39 goals this season.
Manchester City and Monaco are both believed to be interested, but it is Liverpool who have made the first move.
Real are demanding £11.5 million for the Portuguese international, who has found first team opportunities hard to come by at the Bernabeu, with Brazilian Marcelo ahead of him in the pecking order.
Coentrao was a target for both Manchester United and Tottenham over the last two transfer windows, however both were put off by the asking price at the time.
Real have since dropped that price by more than £3 million, and that has alerted Brendan Rodgers title chasers.
