Liverpool legend dreamt of uniting with Chelsea gaffer

MourinhoLiverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been wondering what might have been, as former captain Steven Gerrard conceded he ‘dreamt’ of current Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho taking over during his time at Anfield.

Quoted by The Daily MirrorGerrard reckons that had the Portuguese boss spent time in Merseyside as manager of the Reds then he’d have a few more trophies under his belt- perhaps even the elusive Premier League trophy the Kopites crave.

Scousers at the bar shuddered when we reminded them Gerrard flirted with a Mourinho-led Chelsea in 2005, before electing to remain at his boyhood club- lifting the Champions League later that season under Rafael Benitez.

For Chelsea fans over by the jukebox, envisioning Mourinho in charge of another Premier League side is a difficult thought to swallow- although many stated they’d trade him up for someone else immediately if the Blues are to continue their poor run of form.

Mourinho and Gerrard may seem like a match made in heaven- but this would have had to happen years ago, as it seems both are now past their best.

Liverpool fans, how different would things be if Jose Mourinho had managed a Gerrard-led side? Let us know in the comments!
