The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were disappointed with this man’s performance at the weekend…
When Paul Pogba’s arrival in Manchester was announced on the tannoy in the Tavern – there was a raft of cheers stemming from the United faithful in attendance.
They were absolutely delighted. Paul Pogba is, without doubt, one of the best midfielders in world football; but some of the other punters in the Tavern on that day were quick to quash the celebrations.
One particularly vocal fan in attendance warned the United fans that Pogba was prone to going missing on the big stage; citing some of his performances at the 2016 European Championship as evidence.
That certainly didn’t bother them then, but several weeks down the line – it appears that that sentiment has come true.
Despite making an impressive start to life in Manchester, Pogba’s performance in the Manchester Derby over the weekend was his worst yet. He failed to make an impression, and one fan propped up against the Tavern bar has claimed Pogba was the weak-link in that Manchester United side.
Certainly a controversial opinion – but he is not alone in his thinking.
Carragher described Pogba’s performance as “one of the most ill-disciplined performances you will see” – implying that he was at fault for failing to contain the dominant Manchester City midfield.
Elaborating, Carragher discussed how Pogba should have been utilised in the game: “His job, when you are playing in a two in midfield, is to be disciplined, especially against Silva and De Bruyne.”, before questioning whether it was Pogba’s failure or a tactical ineptitude by Mourinho.
Nonetheless, Carragher absolutely slammed the midfielder’s performance, describing him as a school player that “that runs where he wants and does what he wants.”.
Certainly harsh, but our landlord thinks he absolutely right. Pogba was poor at the weekend, and you can certainly place him at fault for at least one of Manchester City’s goals.
Conversely, our bar staff are pointing the blame more directly at Mourinho, who they feel got it wrong tactically in the biggest game of the season.
The Chelsea faithful in the Tavern are as smug as ever, despite failing to beat Swansea at the weekend, and are claiming that the Portuguese manager has lost it. They definitely have a point – Jose would never have been so tactically inept when in charge of the Blues, would he?
The game will no doubt be the talk of the Tavern this week, and Jamie Carragher has thrown even more wood onto the fire with his latest comments.
Man Utd fans – do you agree with Carragher? Was Pogba really that bad?
