Liverpool fans have, naturally, been hoping for a few more signings after the early capture of Fabinho, and according to the Independent, that could be on the cards over the coming weeks.
The Reds had a fantastic campaign last time out, and their journey to the Champions League final will have, undoubtedly, made fans hungry for more success.
Fortunately, the Liverpool brass appears to feel the same way, as they’re doing all they can to turn the Reds into an elite force once again. Having made a few big-name signings over the past year, Fabinho’s signing proved that they still mean business, and another deal is also apparently on the horizon.
Writing for the Independent, Samuel Lovett has been discussing the form of Xherdan Shaqiri at the World Cup, and he’s noted just how much of an impact he’s made so far in Russia. A significant side note, though, is that he also noted that Liverpool are apparently likely to seal a deal for the Swiss winger once he returns from the World Cup.
When that is going to be remains to be seen, given that Switzerland have now progressed into the last sixteen, but it’s clear that a move appears to be on the cards.
How would Shaqiri fit in?
Shaqiri likely wouldn’t be a starter at Anfield, but he’d provide some much-needed depth. Liverpool don’t have many attackers beyond the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, and so bringing in a few more bodies is important.
In Shaqiri, though, they wouldn’t be taking a hit on quality, as he was Stoke City’s best player last season, and he’s clearly got bags of natural ability.
It’s a relatively low-risk option for the club, and he’d certainly have a significant role to play.
What do you think of the World Cup so far? Let us know
A move for Shaqiri makes sense. He’ll likely want to get out of the Championship, and there is a spot in the Liverpool squad that he’d certainly fit in.
How much he would cost remains to be seen, especially as Stoke won’t want him to leave cheaply, but if the Redss can seal this deal as Lovett expects, it will be a great move.
