With the January transfer window fast approaching, excitement is building in the Football Transfer Tavern and Liverpool fans have been whipped into a frenzy after news emerged that Brendan Rodgers is targeting a triple swoop of English talent.
It has already been widely reported that both Daniel Sturridge and Thomas Ince are preparing to join the club when the window opens but now Metro journalist Jamie Sanderson reports that impressive young keeper Jack Butland has been added to the list.
It is thought that the Birmingham City goalkeeper is in advanced talks with the Anfield club over a deal and Sanderson suggests that the trio are just days away from being unveiled as Liverpool players with Sturridge’s capture all but confirmed and Ince set to follow.
Liverpool will pay nearly £16 million to secure the two attacking men but a fee is yet to be agreed with Birmingham to bring the 19-year-old to Anfield, although it’s no secret that young British players do not come cheap.
Butland, who recently made his senior England debut, could act as a long-term replacement for Pepe Reina who has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal in recent weeks.
