Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side record a fourth consecutive victory by easing past Southampton 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday, in turn moving them to within a point of the Premier League’s top four.
Jurgen Klopp’s men swept aside Huddersfield Town, Maribor, and West Ham just prior to the international break to suggest that they were beginning to find some form, and they comfortably made it four on the spin on Saturday. A brace from in-form Mohamed Salah as well as a Philippe Coutinho strike in the second half was more than enough to see the Merseyside giants pick up all three points at Anfield, a result which moved them to within a point of fourth place Tottenham following their derby defeat to Arsenal.
Consequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further intrigued by a recent report from Moroccan publication Liberation, which suggests that the Reds are lining up a shock move for Wolves midfielder Romain Saiss.
The 27-year-old made the move to Molineux back in the summer of 2016 but only managed 24 Championship appearances last term, of which 19 were starts.
Yet the Morocco international has been a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo so far this time round with appearances in all but one of their 17 league matches thus far, helping the Midlands outfit to top spot in the second tier and very much in the hunt for a return to the Premier League.
And Saiss must be doing something right as reports from his homeland suggest that Klopp’s Liverpool are keeping tabs on his progress, but whether the Merseyside giants do indeed firm up their interest in the January transfer window very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Nuno Espirito Santo has taken a Wolves side languishing near the foot of the Championship to one firmly looking at a return to the Premier League this season.
And midfielder Romain Saiss, who made just 24 Championship appearances last term, has played a key part in that with 14 league starts for the club thus far, as well as missing only one game through suspension.
And the Morocco international, who will likely be going to the World Cup with his country next summer, has reportedly been attracting interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who may well be on the lookout for midfield reinforcements should Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho leave the club in January.
Only time will tell though whether they firm up their interest in the midfield ace come the New Year.
