Interesting reports are reaching us in the Football Transfer Tavern today as Charles Perrin from The Express reports that Liverpool could mount a late challenge to Fiorentina for Palermo midfielder Josip Illic.
It had been thought by most in the tavern that the highly-rated 25-year-old Slovenian international would be remaining in Italy this summer with reports suggesting that the Florence-based side had successfully agreed a fee with his current club
However Perrin insists despite that these reports, Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is planning to swoop for the playmaker after Palermo were relegated to Serie B last season.
Despite relegation Ilicic still impressed for the Sicilians netting 11 goals in his 32 matches and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is thought to be an admirer of the former Maribor man but he has other targets to pursue.
His agent Amir Ruznic made clear that his client will be leaving the club, saying: “He will certainly leave Palermo. He is wanted by several different sides, Italian and overseas, but we are still in the beginning of the process,”
