Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are still reeling from yesterday’s news that Chelsea had beaten the Anfield club to highly-rated FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah.
This was despite widespread reports suggesting that a move to Merseyside was well and truly on the cards.
This would have come as something of a blow to boss Brendan Rodgers as he tries to strengthen his squad with only seven days of the winter transfer window remaining.
However today’s copy of The Express now indicates that the Reds have found a new target in the form of Spartak Moscow midfielder Romulo, and could move for the Brazilian international before the deadline slams shut.
The reports come after it was confirmed that Lucas Leiva will be sidelined for the next two months with a knee ligament injury.
This has seen Rodgers look at again at the options available to him with the 23-year-old midfield ace, who has been scouted by Arsenal and Barcelona in the past, emerging as his chief target.
It had been reported that AC Milan’s Nigel De Jong was being looked at by the Reds, but today’s speculation dismisses any thought of a Premier League return for the former Manchester City man.
Instead Russian reports are saying that Rodgers has now decided on a move for the player valued at around £10 million by the Russian club.
