Real Madrid star Lucas Vazquez has been ruled out of his side’s Champions League clash with Liverpool through injury.
The Reds face a huge task on Wednesday night, looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit at home to Zinedine Zidane’s side. There will be no Anfield crowd to roar Liverpool on in Europe this time around, so Jurgen Klopp’s men will need to produce a special performance.
Madrid were comfortably the better team in the first leg, outplaying the Reds all over the pitch, with Vazquez impressive at right-back.
Vasquez out of Liverpool clash
The 29-year-old’s season has been abruptly ended, however, after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury on Saturday’s 2-1 win at home to Barcelona.
That means he is out of the Liverpool game, giving Klopp and his players some additional hope of making it into the Champions League semi-finals.

Vazquez may not be as lauded as some of his teammates, but his absence is a big blow for Real Madrid, considering the wealth of experience he has. Zidane himself has spoken of how much he wants to keep hold of the Spaniard, too, which speaks volumes of his importance to the squad.
He now has 240 appearances to his name for Los Blancos, with 26 goals scored and 54 assists registered in that time, outlining his pedigree.
Vazquez’s absence means that Zidane will have to tweak his back-line, giving hope to Liverpool’s attack on a night when they have to fire.
