There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro claim that Liverpool owner John W. Henry has claimed selling Luis Suarez would be ‘ludicrous.’
The forward has seen his transfer options for the summer reduced to Arsenal and Arsenal alone with neither Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich showing much interest in the Uruguayan forward and now it seems that Liverpool will stand firm on their previous stance and refuse to let the player leave for a direct top four rival.
Henry fumed that: “To sell to a rival for those positions, or one of them, would be ludicrous.
“Liverpool needs to be playing in Europe. It needs to be playing in the Champions League. That’s what Liverpool football club is about.
“I’m unequivocal that we won’t sell to Arsenal, whatever the bid is. I have not said it to Stan [Kroenke, Arsenal’s majority shareholder] but I had a personal conversation with others at Arsenal and told him [Gazidis] we would not sell to Arsenal.
“He won’t be sold even if a foreign club comes in because we do not have time to sign a suitable replacement. It’s a football reason. It’s not about finances. That’s why at this point, so late in the window, with everyone who’s already moved or isn’t moving, we can’t replace him. So for football reasons we can’t sell, and especially to Arsenal.”
The latest twist in the saga of the summer comes as Suarez finally pushed Brendan Rodgers over the edge and saw himself forced to train alone whilst the club work out what to do with the latest problem in the life of Luis Suarez. Clearly if they are not willing to sell to the only buyer, a compromise will have to be reached, yet as one of our punters quips, at the minute that does not look like happening.
