Emre Can is a fan favourite amongst the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern…
A jack of all trades under Jurgen Klopp, the German has never quite found his feet at Anfield completely, typically filling in where needed during his spell in the Premier League.
That certainly doesn’t take away from his quality, though, with the German clearly a player that is improving every year. All of this has made his current contractual situation particularly concerning, then.
With just one year left on his current deal, Can has yet to sign a new contract at Anfield, and according to Tutto Sport, there is a reason for that. Tutto Sport are reporting that Can is ‘tempted’ by interest from Juventus, and he is stalling on signing a new deal at Anfield in the hope that The Old Lady will agree a fee with Liverpool.
A move looks very unlikely, given that the Reds are said to be demanding €35 million (£30.9 million) for the midfielder, and so this does pose quite the problem for both the player and the club.
Klopp must deal with this situation carefully, as he cannot afford to retain an unhappy player – but Can’s importance to his team is undeniable. He made 32 Premier League appearances last season, and so Klopp must ensure that his role is not lost this summer.
