Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are on top of cloud nine today, with their passage to the Capital One Cup final at Wembley being followed by some sensational news from the continent.
German media outlet Bild state that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has met with the agent of Granit Xhaka to discuss a potential move bringing the Borussia Monchengladbach star to the Premier League.
Any transfer would likely go ahead in the summer, where Gladbach have openly admitted it would be difficult to fend off interest in the services of the 23-year-old Swiss international, and Klopp seems keen to land a deal.
Liverpool could avoid any issues in a transfer by matching Xhaka’s reported £22.7m release clause with the German side and by meeting with the player’s agent, Andy Dross, it seems Klopp is hopeful of beating rival clubs to the midfielder’s signature.
Our landlord believes Xhaka would become an icon at Anfield, in a similar calibre to Xabi Alonso, but believes a move will be difficult to pull-off without the offering of Champions League football.
Liverpool fans, can Xhaka to the next Alonso at your club? Let us know in the comments below!
