According to The Mirror, Rafael Benitez is targeting Liverpool’s Glen Johnson and Manchester City’s James Milner as the Spanish tactitian looks to boost his Napoli side in January.
Some drinkers in the tavern see these players as quite random transfer targets but the reason why these two are on Benitez’s shopping list is because they are both entering the final months of their current contracts.
This is not to mention Benitez having formerly coached Johnson, 30, who recently claimed that talk of a new contract had gone quiet meaning the possibility of him hooking up with his former boss seems increasingly possible.
Whilst the capture of City’s Milner looks to be a lot more complicated and competitive as it is well known that a lot of club’s in Europe are keeping tabs on his situation.
Should Milner not agree to a new deal at City, he will have a number of clubs interested and it is unknown as to whether the former Leeds United man would contemplate a move to the continent.
Napoli are currently out of the Champions League and sit in seventh place in Serie A which is unacceptable by their usual high standards.
The Azzurri hope that reinforcements in January will be enough to recover their season and see them qualify for the Champions League once more.
Liverpool fans. He’s received a lot of stick in recent months so would you be shocked to see Johnson manage to secure a move to a top European side such as Napoli? Let us know your thoughts below.
