You can tell it’s a Champions League night in the Football Transfer Tavern mainly because of the various football shirts being worn around the bar.
One such shirt is that of La Liga high flyers Atletico Madrid, who have started the season in sensational form, which included their 7-0 victory over Getafe at the weekend.
Now Nick Lustig from the Daily Star has news for the Atletico devotee in the bar by suggesting that the race for one of their finest players is hotting up amid interest from both England and Italy.
He reports that Liverpool and Manchester United will face competition to sign attacking midfielder Koke as Italian giants AC Milan line up a January swoop for the Atletico Madrid star.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who signed a new deal keeping him a the club until 2018, has been one of the stars in Diego Simeone’s team stunning start to the season. He has already won an impressive seven international caps for Spain as he establishes as one of the best up and coming talents in La Liga.
Milan are the latest club who are reportedly tracking him and the San Siro club are understood to be ready to pay him a £3.5 million-a-year salary to lure him to Serie A.
This could come as a blow to both United and Liverpool who are also planning to activate his £16 million release clause in the upcoming January window although Simone maintains realistic hopes of keeping Koke at least until the summer.
