Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are watching the progress of Derby County youngster Will Hughes with a very close eye as speculation increases about a possible move to the Premier League.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly chasing the 18-year-old midfielder and The Express have handed his suitors a boost as they report that newly appointed Rams manager Steve McClaren has now conceded that the wonderkid is likely to leave the club in January.
Hughes made the headlines at the weekend as he found the net for the Championship outfit during their 3-1 victory over Leeds United on Saturday with a whole host of scouts watching him in action in the process.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to be at the front of the queue for Hughes, with the starlet already being compared with legendary Reds captain Steven Gerrard while David Moyes is also keeping tabs.
Now McClaren, who replaced Nigel Clough at the helm last week admits that it will be almost impossible to keep hold of the England Under-21 international as his development continues.
The former England manager said about Hughes: “Our job is to make sure he makes it.
“Eventually he will be too good. What we need behind that is players coming through to replace him.”
We completely agree with McClaren and are already looking forward to seeing the exciting blonde haired talent plying his trade in the Premier League with a expected January move already in the pipeline.
With a move set to be sealed, who will Hughes choose to continue his development? Let us know your thoughts below.
