Liverpool midfield target wants January exit, but it’s not all good news for Klopp

Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side get past Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup last weekend, maintaining their excellent unbeaten run ahead of their clash with Premier League leaders Manchester City on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men began their quest for a first FA Cup title since 2006 with a 2-1 success over Sam Allardyce’s Toffees last Friday, with goals from James Milner and Virgil van Dijk either side of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s equaliser booking their place in the last 32, where they’ll face Alan Pardew’s West Brom. And that victory extended their unbeaten run in domestic competition to 14 matches, setting them up perfectly for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s City on Sunday, who remain unbeaten in all domestic encounters so far this season.

Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from Diario Gol, which suggests that reported target Dani Ceballos wants to leave Real Madrid, less than six months after moving to the European champions.

The 21-year-old ended a six-year association with fellow La Liga outfit Real Betis to move to the Spanish capital during the summer, yet the midfielder has managed just 186 minutes of league action under Zinedine Zidane this season, starting on just two occasions.

And with just four Champions League substitute appearances to boast as well, it’s clear that the Spain Under-21 international is struggling to force his way into reckoning at the Bernabeu, and recent reports suggests that he wants to leave the club, with Liverpool one side reportedly keen.

And while this may give manager Klopp a potential boost in pursuit of Ceballos, the report also suggests that Zidane doesn’t want to sell him this month, leaving Ceballos’ future very much uncertain heading into the last three weeks of the transfer window.

Landlord’s verdict: Philippe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona has left Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp slightly short of attacking options, while Emre Can’s expected move to Juventus, whether this month or in the summer, will thin those ranks even further.

So reports that they are interested in Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos are hardly surprising, and the Reds may have received a boost as the 21-year-old reportedly wants to leave the Bernabeu due to a lack of regular football, with the midfielder earning just two La Liga starts so far this season.

However, it’s not all good news for Klopp, as the report does detail that Real boss Zinedine Zidane doesn’t want to sell him this month, so it would surely have to take something pretty special from Klopp’s men to convince the club to part with the Spaniard.
