There is disappointment amongst Liverpool fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern, with Jamie Sanderson of Metro reporting the club have missed out on the signing of Brazilian defender Dede.
Brendan Rodgers had identified the Vasco da Gama defender as a top summer target, as he looks to find a top quality replacement for the retiring Jamie Carragher.
Although it now seems Dede has snubbed the Reds in order to stay in Brazil, and is set to complete a shock move to rivals Cruzeiro.
The players agent had confirmed last month the player had been contacted by Liverpool over a possible summer switch and that talks had already started to take place.
But despite this, Vasco who are desperate to raise funds have elected to sell the defender to rivals Cruzeiro for just £4.2 million.
The news will come as a bitter blow to Rodgers, who only last week was speaking of how he was desperate to make top quality signings in good time this summer in order to get Liverpool that step closer to the top four next season.
Dede was a number one target having already won seven caps for Brazil, and being a known target for both Manchester United and Milan in recent seasons.
After sealing the deal, Cruzeiro’s president described Dede as ‘one of the best defenders in the world’.
