Liverpool have started the season in an inconsistent manner to say the least and already look like enduring another year without winning the Premier League title.
Under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds have shown some improvement, with some scintillating displays of attacking football on display at times.
However, the effervescent problems remain at Anfield in terms of the back four, and our landlord here in the Tavern is amazed the club didn’t seek to address the issue in the summer.
One player he feels the club missed out on signing who would have been a realistic target is current Borussia Dortmund defender Marc Bartra.
The Spaniard has been in good form for a few seasons now since sealing a move to Germany from Catalan giants Barcelona, and could well slot into the Premier League with ease.
Bartra is strong in the tackle but also more than capable of using the ball well, and would be a less costly option than that of Virgil Van Dijk, who the club were linked with all summer.
Klopp would be wise to use his contacts at his former club and make a move for Bartra if possible, after surely regretting not making a move for a central defender in the summer.
If Bartra does move to Anfield, then Liverpool will well on their way to improving defensively.
Liverpool fans, what do you think? Would Bartra be a good signing? Let us know!Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
