According to the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, at least one more signing is expected at Anfield during the January transfer window. Always a demanding bunch, they’re clearly hoping that Jurgen Klopp brings another new face in following the arrival of Virgil van Dijk.
It won’t be easy, given how difficult it typically is to land top talent in January, but it appears as though the Reds are at least on the lookout for new players. The Daily Mail has this week linked them with a potential move for Jean-Michael Seri in January, and that has gone down well in the pub. Indeed, our landlord thinks that the Reds need to do all they can to bring him in.
There are a few reasons for that, but his raw quality is clearly the outstanding motivation. A midfielder by trade, Seri is able to control games through the middle of the park, with his fantastic ball retention, passing and dribbling all combining to make him quite the player. He’s the lynchpin in the Nice midfield at present, and alongside the likes of Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho, you’d imagine that he would only get better.
At 26-years-old, he’s a player that is in the prime of his career. In particular, he has flourished over the last 18 months or so, and he has impressed this term. A regular in Ligue 1, his quality is evident.
With Emre Can’s contract set to expire in the summer, and his future still uncertain, Klopp must be considering a potential replacement, and Seri would be a perfect choice. The way he controls games is eerily reminiscent of Can, and so it could be a perfect trade for Liverpool.
He won’t be cheap, but what a signing he would be.
