Liverpool supporters have been somewhat quieter in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side concede a 95th minute leveller to end up drawing 2-2 with Tottenham in a thrilling Premier League encounter at Anfield on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men looked to have sealed a vital victory in the race for a top four spot following Mohamed Salah’s sensational solo effort in the first minute of added time, only for Spurs to hit back in the dying stages after Virgil van Dijk was adjudged to have fouled Erik Lamela, allowing Kane to make amends for an earlier penalty miss to seal a point for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. As such, the Reds remain third in the table, but could find themselves behind Chelsea come 10pm on Monday should the Blues get the better of Watford.
Subsequently, there have been some frustrated Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom remain confident of a top four finish come the end of the season, especially with a favourable fixture list to come given they face just two of the top seven between now and May.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Reds fans to discuss, not least recent reports linking them with a move for Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere in the summer at the expiration of his Gunners contract.
And given how impressive the England international has been this term, alongside the likely departure of Emre Can come the end of the season, it’s a move Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy must seek to make in the summer.
Ultimately, the Reds are likely to see 24-year-old Can leave the club at the end of his contract this summer, what with no extension agreed and heavy interest coming from Italian giants Juventus.
Naby Keita will be making the move to Anfield ready for the 2018/19 campaign, but it remains to be seen how well and how quickly he can adapt to the Premier League, whereas there are no question marks over Wilshere’s suitability to the top-flight.
Yes, fitness and injuries are a huge concern with regard to the 26-year-old, but he has also highlighted this term that, when fit, he is an excellent Premier League midfielder and one that can influence proceedings from the middle of the park.
With 27 appearances for Bournemouth last season, and already 22 for Arsene Wenger’s Gunners this time round, the England international is slowly but surely building his fitness back up again, and at the same time is beginning to again look like the midfielder that England were pinning their hopes on a few years ago.
And were Wilshere to run his contract down at Arsenal, the Reds would be able to land him on a free in the summer, which is surely worth a punt given how good and influential he could be for the Merseyside giants in the years to come.
And when one looks at the job Klopp has done in reinvigorating the career of former Gunners star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere himself could well be interested in making the move to Anfield to work under the German.
Add all those factors together, and Liverpool should indeed make a move for the £16.2 million-rated midfield ace (as per Transfermarkt) in the summer.
