Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are hopeful that the club will complete deals for players of the highest calibre.
The Reds have historically had issues to identify a suitable goalkeeper to defend their posts. Our landlord believes that the Merseysiders never really adequately replaced club icon Pepe Reina after his departure, and while Simon Mignolet has produced moments of sheer quality, he’s far too inconsistent to represent the club at the highest level of football.
The Champions League is a world-class competition, where players of the greatest ability compete, while Mignolet has done reasonably well as a Liverpool player, he’s failed to inject a sense of consistency and continuity to his game. The Belgian is capable of producing moments of unquestionable brilliance, yet these occurrences are far too rare.
Having secured European football for the forthcoming season, Jurgen Klopp must target players who are endowed with considerable experience; one such player is Real Madrid’s, Keylor Navas. His availability is reliant on Madrid’s ability to sign a replacement, their pursuit of David de Gea is well-known among the football community and our landlord believes that Klopp should do everything he can to sign a goalkeeper of Navas’ calibre this summer.
Costa Rica’s number 1 was a crucial figure in both of Madrid’s La Liga and Champions League triumphs, and he’s amassed sufficient experience of competing at the highest level with Los Blancos. The 30-year-old could provide the pedigree and knowledge that the Reds have lacked for such a long time.
Navas has proven to be an excellent goalkeeper; his superb reflexes mean that he’s terrific at preventing shots from close range and from distance. While this could be a complicated deal for the Liverpool hierarchy to conclude, our landlord believes that their endeavours will be worth the reward.
