Liverpool must move quickly to secure prodigy who cost just £4.5m amid Inter Milan interest

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping Jurgen Klopp will continue to strengthen in the transfer market this summer with the signing of a new attacking player.

The Reds have been busy in the transfer market already this summer as they recently confirmed the signing of Fabinho who will join the club along with Naby Keita. Recent reports have also suggested that Liverpool are in negotiations with Lyon over the signing of Nabil Fekir, but whether those reports are based on solid evidence remains to be seen.

Liverpool’s interest in Fekir presumably derives from Klopp’s desire to add depth to his attacking options this summer as he was forced to rely solely on his dynamic trio of Mane, Salah and Firmino last season. With that in mind, Liverpool should instead make a bid to sign Malcom this summer in order to add a significant layer of quality to their forward options.

Although Fekir is undoubtedly a brilliant attacking player, it’s difficult to see where he would slot into Liverpool’s system as his best performances in Ligue 1 have arrived in a number ten role which is virtually non-existent in a 4-3-3 formation. The France international could slot into a slightly deeper midfield position, but with Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wijnaldum all vying for a starting berth, it seems rather nonsensical to add Fekir to the equation.

With that in mind, Liverpool should make the acquisition of Malcom their number one priority this summer, but they will need to act quickly in order to secure his signature as according to a recent report from the Italian media outlet Calicomercato, Inter Milan have joined Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign one of Europe’s hottest prospects.

Malcom joined Bordeaux from Corinthians for a fee of just £4.5 million in 2016, but his stock has risen considerably since his arrival in Europe due to his electric performances in Ligue 1. The 21-year-old managed to notch 12 goals and provide 7 assists from 35 league outings last season and attracted plenty of interest from some of Europe’s top clubs in the process.

Like Liverpool’s current crop of wide players, Malcom is a certified speed merchant who possesses plenty of confidence and trickery to take on his opposite number and, with the end-product to match his build up play, he would be a huge asset for the Reds in the seasons to come.

Klopp will certainly face stern competition from across Europe for Bordeaux’s talisman, but if he is able to beat the likes of Inter Milan to his signature then Liverpool will be well-placed to mount a genuine title-challenge next season.
