Liverpool have made an inconsistent start to the Premier League campaign once again with some of the same old problems coming back to haunt them, particularly in defence.
Manager Jurgen Klopp spent big in the summer on the likes of Mo Salah, but refused to address his defensive issues once again, neglecting a crucial position which looks like it’s going to cost him this year.
Our landlord here at the Tavern though thinks Liverpool have enough options in attack to cause most teams a problem, but thinks one or two players could be given a chance given how things have gone lately.
One of those players he thinks deserves a chance is young England man and former Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke.
The youngster looked in excellent nick during pre-season and many fans were expecting him to break into the first team this year. So far though, Roberto Firmino has kept him out, as Klopp opts for his one up and two wide front three.
A change in system though could allow Solanke in, and the chance to play alongside Firmino could be the ideal tonic for the striker and improve the Reds’ chances of getting three points. Solanke’s pace, power, and raw ability would work well alongside the Brazilian, who could drop further into a number ten role to influence the game more.
It’s something for Klopp to think about if wins still elude him, and Solanke will be chomping at the bit to get a chance.
Liverpool fans, what do you think? Would you give Solanke a chance? Let us know!
