The Daily Star carry news of a blow for a Premier League duo here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they think that both Newcastle United and Liverpool have missed out on Lille’s star defender Aurelien Chedjou.
Both clubs have been tracking the Cameroon international and were considering making a move for him, yet they are now both set to be left disappointed after it emerged that the player has joined Turkish giants Galatasaray for around £6 million.
Of course the Turkish giants now boast a whole host of talent including Jose Mourinho’s favourites Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder and it is no shock they are landing more highly coveted players.
Both the Reds and Magpies had been considering making a move for the defender – Liverpool are of course still seeking another centre back after the retirement of Jamie Carragher and the uncertainty over the future of their other defenders and Newcastle are still concerned over the long-term future of skipper Fabricio Coloccini.
As one of our punters quips, Chedjou should count himself lucky he does not have to deal with the pronunciation error Joe Kinnear would have made had he joined the St. James’ Park outfit this summer!
