Liverpool fans here in the Tavern aren’t expecting any new signings before the close of the window, but would like to see some of their fringe players depart to lift the weight off of the current wage bill.
In Monday night’s encounter, Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a demoralising defeat at the hands of Carlos Carvahal and his Swansea City team that currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League.
Therefore, with some disappointment to start the week they’ll be hoping to make up for it with some impressive transfer window business. According to reports in the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool outcast Lazar Markovic could be on his way out of Anfield with a possible move to Spartak Moscow.
There’s been some moments of brilliance made in previous transfer windows gone by, but the Serbian is not one of those as a contender for one of the worst signings in the history of the football club.
With high hopes of fulfilling his Premier League dream, Lazar Markovic joined the Reds from Benfica as one of the most highly-rated players to come out of Portugal at the time. And, after joining for £20 million back in 2014, the Serbian has done little to justify the club paying anywhere near the price-tag that was slapped on the 20-year-old.
Indeed, after loan spells at Hull City, Besiktas and Sporting Lisbon, the club are now receiving interest from Premier League side West Brom as they look to offload the midfielder at all costs.
A player that’s become surplus to requirements at Anfield after being sent out to a whole host of different clubs, with his performances in the red shirt failing to match the standards that Liverpool set.
Nevertheless, receiving any fee for the Serbian would be a success for the Merseyside club, after turning into one of the worst transfer decisions in recent years.
